Peru is a diverse country that is located on the edge of the Nazca and South American plates. It is part of the "belt of fire" in the Pacific. According to the 2007 census the population of Lima is of 7,605,742 inhabitants, however, the metropolitan area composed of Lima and Callao home to 8,482,619 inhabitants, equivalent to 30% of the Peruvian population.
